Outsourcing Risk Reduced by Flawless Execution of Technology Transfer
Royston, GA: “One of the biggest risks associated with pharmaceutical outsourcing is business interruption during technology transfer,” notes Carl Oberg, President of Pharma Tech Industries, Inc.
Pharma Tech Industries, a leader in outsource manufacturing of pharmaceutical and Over-the-counter products, has found that the solution to minimizing risk within technology transfer applications comes about within a blend of engineering knowledge, product-handling experience and a complete understanding of the customer’s specific process-- before attempting to duplicate the manufacturing process.
In a recent technology transfer application, although the customer had installed a multi-story vertical-flow blending system in its original location, Pharma Tech determined that a horizontal pneumatic feed system would preserve material integrity while reducing installation time and cost.
As part of the process, Pharma Tech’s engineering and senior operations team worked on-line at the host location to become familiar with all facets of the existing operation.
A sequential transfer was decided upon in which the first of three production lines was installed and tested at Pharma Tech’s Georgia location, while the other two original lines remained in production at the prior site. During this phase, employees from the host site worked directly alongside Pharma Tech employees at the new location to assure that the new workforce, as well as the equipment, made a seamless transition.
